About Myovision:

A surface EMG is similar to an “ECG/EKG” (Electrocardiogram) for the heart. It uses a hand held instrument placed over the muscles of the entire spine to identify the exact location of abnormal muscle activity. The test is painless and quick, taking approximately 3 minutes to complete. And most importantly, it helps us determine what further evaluations or tests may or may not be necessary. Discover how you “measure up” to normal! You’ll get to take a copy of your neck and back “picture” home with you! MyoVision is the absolute latest and most high-tech tool available in chiropractic spinal analysis.

What do the results of the MyoVision sEMG Exam mean?
Originally developed for use by NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) to measure the effects of zero gravity and fatigue on their astronauts, it has recently been shown to correlate with neurological reflexes that occur with injury. For our purposes, we are concerned with injury of the spine.

Chiropractors specialize in the analysis, detection, and correction of vertebral subluxations. The subluxation is the key problem to find and correct for the chiropractor, much like cavities are for the dentist. A subluxation is a misalignment of one of the 24 vertebrae of the spine causing nerve pressure and abnormal spinal mechanics (movement). Nerve pressure causes interference or alterations to the messages sent from the brain to the body and results in a decrease in proper body function. Decreased function may cause various health problems and symptoms. Since the nervous system controls every function of your body (either directly or indirectly) and regulates every muscle, organ and cell, it is important for your nervous system to be free of nerve pressure in order to enjoy optimal health.

At Complete Family Healthcare, our doctors specialize in finding the areas of nerve pressure, muscle tension and the subluxations causing it. Using MyoVision helps this process.

What do the colored bars mean?
Colors indicate levels of muscle tension (spasm): green is average or normal, purple is moderately high, and red indicates high levels of tension. Yellow readings indicate abnormally low or fatigued muscles, which may be a precursor to abnormalities. The arrows indicate an imbalance of muscle tone. The imbalances can indicate the presence of a Vertebral Subluxation. When correlated with X-Ray and other testing we perform, the sEMG gives us additional information to help correct the cause of your symptoms.

The image on the left is a sEMG examination result PRIOR to chiropractic care indicative of an abnormal ‘unhealthy’ state. The image on the right is a sEMG examination result AFTER chiropractic adjustments were administered indicative of a near normal ‘healthier’ state.

In essence, what this test does is measure the amount of muscle activity (or inactivity) going on within a particular group of muscles. If problems are long standing, abnormal muscle fatigue will be displayed in the graph. If problems are more recent, it will show up as abnormally strong, or in spasm. Usually when a muscle has spasms it is to protect a weakened joint and/or nerves. This is due to the laxity (stretching) that occurs in the damaged ligaments that hold the spine in place. Ligaments are somewhat elastic, much like a rubber band. If you have ever stretched a rubber band too far you noticed that it either broke or lost its normal ability to rebound back to the same level of tightness. In your body, the brain notices this loss of elasticity and the instability to the surrounding joints by creating muscle spasm to provide support and protection to these injured and loose areas. These abnormal patterns in muscle activity can give solid evidence that there may be nerve irritation. Both chiropractors and medical doctors have performed a tremendous amount of research to validate this fact.

Acupressure is an ancient healing art that uses the fingers to press key points on the surface of the skin to stimulate the body’s natural self-curative abilities. When these points are pressed, they release muscular tension and promote the circulation of blood and the body’s life force to aid healing. Acupuncture and acupressure use the same points, but acupuncture employs needles, while acupressure uses the gentle but firm pressure of hands (and even feet). There is a massive amount of scientific data that demonstrates why and how acupuncture is effective. But acupressure, the older of the two traditions, was neglected after the Chinese developed more technological methods for stimulating points with needles and electricity. Acupressure, however, continues to be the most effective method for self-treatment of tension-related ailments by using the power and sensitivity of the human hand.

Foremost among the advantages of acupressure’s healing touch is that it is safe to do on yourself and others – even if you’ve never done it before – so long as you follow the instructions and pay attention to the cautions. There are no side effects from drugs, because there are no drugs. And the only equipment needed are your own two hands. You can practice acupressure therapy any time, anywhere.

There are great advantages to using acupressure as a way to balance the body and maintain good health. The healing touch of acupressure reduces tension, increases circulation, and enables the body to relax deeply. By relieving stress, acupressure strengthens resistance to disease and promotes wellness.

In acupressure, local symptoms are considered an expression of the condition of the body as a whole. A tension headache, for instance, may be rooted in the shoulder and neck area. Thus acupressure focuses on relieving pain and discomfort as well as on responding to tension before it develops into a “dis-ease” that is, before the constrictions and imbalances can do further damage. By using a combination of self-help methods such as trigger point stimulation, deep breathing, range-of-motion exercises, and relaxation techniques, you can improve your condition as well as feel more alive, healthy, and in harmony with your life.

Shiatsu/Acupressure -(30min)$50

Shiatsu (指圧 Japanese from shi, meaning finger, and atsu, meaning pressure) is a traditional hands-on therapy originating in Japan.

How does shiatsu work?

Like acupuncture, shiatsu is based on the holistic system of traditional Chinese medicine, where illness is thought to result from imbalances in the natural flow of energy, or qi (pronounced “chee”) through the body.

Shiatsu therapists use finger and palm pressure to energetic pathways, called meridians to improve the flow of qi.

A scientific explanation is that shiatsu calms an overactive sympathetic nervous system, which improves circulation, relieves stiff muscles, and alleviates stresss.

What does shiatsu feel like?

The shiatsu therapist applies pressure using his or her fingers, thumbs, and/or palms in a continuous rhythmic sequence.

The pressure feels more localized, because unlike other types of massage, the finger pads are used to apply pressure for most of the treatment instead of the entire palm.

Certain pressure points may feel tender, which some people describe it as “good pain.”

If you feel any discomfort or pain during the treatment, tell your therapist and he or she will adjust the pressure so that it is comfortable to you.

Most people say shiatsu is as relaxing as a classic forms of massage therapy.

What should I expect during my visit?

Unlike other forms of massage, with shiatsu no massage oil is applied, so you remain fully clothed during the treatment. You may be asked to bring comfortable clothing to wear.

What conditions is shiatsu used for?

  • Relaxation
  • Back pain
  • Headache
  • Premenstrual syndrome
  • Anxiety
  • Insomnia
  • Neck and shoulder pain
  • Tiredness
  • Recovery from injuries
  • Stress
  • Arthritis pain
  • Poor digestion
  • Constipation
  • Depression

Precautions

Shiatsu is not recommended for certain people:

  • infectious skin disease, rash, or open wounds
  • immediately after surgery
  • immediately after chemotherapy or radiation, unless recommended by your doctor
  • people with osteoporosis should consult their doctor before having shiatsu
  • prone to blood clots. There is a risk of blood clots being dislodged. If you have heart disease, check with your doctor before having shiatsu
  • pregnant women should check with their doctor first if they are considering getting any type of massage or bodywork. Shiatsu in pregnant women should be done by massage therapists who are certified in pregnancy massage.
  • shiatsu should not be done directly over bruises, inflamed skin, unhealed wounds, tumors, abdominal hernia, or areas of recent fractures.

Applied Kinesiology:(60min)-$50

  • In general, the applied kinesiologist finds a muscle that tests weak and then attempts to determine why that muscle is not functioning properly. The practitioner will then evaluate and apply the therapy that will best eliminate the muscle weakness and help the patient.
  • Applied kinesiology uses the – triad of health – chemical, mental and structural factors – to describe the proper balance of the major health categories.
  • Applied Kinesiology (AK) is a chiropractic diagnostic method using manual muscle-strength testing for medical diagnosis and a subsequent determination of prescribed therapy. According to followers of the theory, it gives feedback on the functional status of the body. AK draws together many similar therapies. It attempts an integrated, interdisciplinary approach to health care. George J. Goodheart, a chiropractor, originated AK in 1964 and began teaching it to other chiropractors. The International College of Applied Kinesiology was founded in 1976 (or 1973.)

·         AK is a practice within the realm of alternative medicine and is different from “kinesiology,” which is the scientific study of human movement.

Cranial sacral Techniques:(30min) $50

What is the basis of cranial techniques? – The mobilization and balancing of the cranial rhythm. The cranial bones serve mainly as handles to release the restrictions in the reciprocal tension membrane and dura, similar to the humerus bone when we move an arm through its ranges of motion to restore motion to a shoulder. Restoration of the cranial motion is greatly dependent upon mobilization of the cranial bones. The cranial motion will induce a pumping action for the fluid around the brain for nutrients and minerals. Once the cranial has restored motion it will also affect the dura mater. The dura mater anchors the membrane around the brain and spinal cord to the cranial bone and tail bone called the sacrum. If those skeletal structures are misaligned and stuck, it can cause tension throughout the brain and spinal cord.

Pain relief: When a client has significant pain coming into the office, they are looking for quick and substantial relief. Pain is a symptom, whether from stress (see above), trauma, structural imbalance, inflammation, or emotions. Pain from trauma has several manifestations. One is the actual pain from the trauma. When a body is in pain, the entire body reacts with tension, structural distortion, and limited motion. This includes the cranium. It only makes sense to use a cranial technique that will remobilize the cranial motion to help remobilize the entire body and specifically the area of trauma. Oftentimes, this immediately reduces the intensity of the pain.

Sometimes the pain is actually caused by cranial compression, as is often found with headaches. The remobilizing of the cranial motion releases this compression, the soft tissue of the dura and relieving the headaches.

Who is Dr. Zen?

Zen Matsuda was born in here is Twin Cities of Minnesota. He earned his four-year Bachelor’s Degree in BiologicalYour browser may not support display of this image. Science from Northwestern College in St. Paul, Minnesota. After graduation he continued his study in Doctorate of Chiropractic in Northwestern Health Science University in Bloomington, MN. During his course of study, he came across Gonstead Chiropractors that change his idea about Chiropractic. Spending many hours of seminars, internships, and practice, he learned how to analyze the spine biomechanically and specific/precise correction of the spine.

In 2010, he opened Zen Chiropractic in Minnesota. Dr. Zen intended to use his unique name that was given to him by his father. From the name Zen chiropractic, he intended on fusing of the East and Western concepts of healing. Dr. Zen has used the idea of Chi from the East and Chiropractic from the West and adjusting the misalignment of the spine for inspiring healing from within. People with injuries to their body feel that their lives are limited permanently. Having Asthma and knee problems I didn’t think that I will be able to run more than one mile. Later in my life I found out that I can run more than 3 miles 2-3 times a week. I realized that healing comes from within. The spine surrounds and protects the Brain and spinal cord. When one of the spinal segments moves out of place and interferes with the normal healing and function of the body, eventually your body will degrade to a limited life style. Chiropractic can help restore your 100% God given potential.
